How much is the tax credit?
This bill allows for homeowners to obtain a tax credit of 30% of
the cost of qualifying energy efficient upgrades up to a maximum of
$1,500 per household for 2009 and 2010. The new regulations provide
five times more tax credit to homeowners than previously available
under a similar bill. Additionally, the new law has some very
specific restrictions, including:
- Purchased windows must meet a U-Value of 0.30 or less and a
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or less.
- The credit applies only to the price of the qualified windows
excluding any sales tax and installation costs.
- The tax credit is applicable only to qualified windows
purchased and installed in 2009 and 2010.
- All receipts for the windows purchased, along with any window
labels and stickers, must be saved in order for the homeowner to
apply for the tax credit.
